We work closely with
federal policy and regulatory agencies and congressional offices to ensure
that barley producers’ concerns are considered.
We coordinate our
positions and priorities on research through the
National Barley
Improvement Committee (NBIC). NBIC is a
consortium of state barley check-off organizations, malting/brewing industry
and university researchers dedicated to maintaining federal research funding
for barley and malting barley programs. NBIC is staffed by the
American Malting Barley Association
in Milwaukee,
WI.
We are members of the
U.S. Grains Council (USGC),
which is the international market development arm
of the U.S. feed grains industry, representing corn, sorghum and barley.
USGC was formed in 1960 as a nonprofit “cooperator” of the USDA and
maintains staff in Washington, D.C. and 11 overseas offices. Market
development programs are conducted in at least 50 foreign countries. Barley
projects included trade servicing, technical seminars and trade teams in
Japan, Taiwan, China, Mexico, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa.
