Dan Mader, Commissioner,
District 1
Dan Mader was appointed July, 2004 by Governor Kempthorne to serve northern
Idaho producers on the Idaho Barley Commission. Dan farms 1,700 acres
in Nez Perce County where he produces barley, winter and spring wheat, peas
and lentils.
Dan serves as chairman of the National Barley Foods Council, a non-profit
organization based in Spokane, WA, dedicated to promoting human consumption
of barley. Dan also serves as a board member of the U.S. Grains
Council, a nonprofit trade association that promotes exports of barley, corn
and sorghum, based in Washington, D.C.
In addition to his farming background, Dan served in the Idaho House of
Representatives for 10 years (1992-2002). He was elected Majority
Caucus Chairman in the Idaho House in 1999.
“I hope to continue
working on expanding markets for our barleys, particularly new winter
malting barleys that will be well adapted to North Idaho,” Mader stated. “We need to focus on our
high quality advantages and convince end users that our barleys are a better
choice than other competing sources.”
